War War II ends in Schleissheim
The New Schleissheim Castle is taken and provides the background for a memory shot.
April 29th, 2007: Master Sergeant Blaschke’s unit of the 45th Inf. Div. in front of
the castle Schleissheim.
Coming from the new castle the U.S. Army approaches the air field.
Here too, in front of the new castle the GIs provide a surprising view of times gone by.
Not neglecting the own safeguarding slowly but surely the air field is secured.
The GIs immediately stop the air traffic.
The Master Sergeant and his vanguard take a small rubbish dump by the airfield giving a full view
over the air field. This dump hadn’t been there in 1945, it consist of the debris of
the barracks which in 1945 used to stand half way between here and the castle.
At the edge of the air field the infantry has to shelter in a ditch to safeguard the approach.
The airfield has been handed over and the situation is cleared. Approach continues and the airfield
is taken. The vanguard moves away through tough territory.
Master Sergeant Blaschke sees the main body of the troops with the GMC through to the airfield.
The unit will continue through to the Junkers hangars via runway 26.
The vehicles have reached the southern Junkers hangars and position themselves next to the runway.
Mr. Spoden and his son are seen off by the GIs and all active participants of this 2 day event.
So now Unterschleissheim and Oberschleissheim may return back to their own time.
